COIR BOARD is a commodity board set up by the Government of India on 7th July, 1954, under an act of parliament viz. Coir Industry Act 1953 with great idea of maximum utilisation of coir fibre and its products. With a view to popularise the use of coir fibre and its products in the indigenous market and also to build up a stable market, Coir Board has established 33 showrooms in India. One of the showroom is at Allahabad, located in the main shopping centre. The main aim of the showroom is to provide the quality of coir products on reasonable price. Because the products sold through the showroom is as per standard specification which is inspected by Coir Mark Scheme, Alleppey and prices fixed by the Coir Board, Cochin Hence, Coir fibre and its products is preferred by the majority of people because of its quality. To support Coir Board, Govt. of India has issued letter No.5(3)96-COIR   Dated 18/6/98 to all the departments for making purchases directly from Coir Board Showroom without obtaining the tender/quotation.
